Assess against the actual flooring system
The installer needs the chosen product and its requirements as well as the site condition. Concrete, sheet flooring and existing boards can call for different assessment. Explain what has already been exposed and whether any previous testing or preparation documentation is available.
Ask for defined preparation work
A quote should identify the proposed assessment and the preparation it covers. Levelling, repairs, adhesive removal or other work should have clear limits rather than an unexplained allowance. Any unresolved cause of movement or moisture may require a different trade before the floor is ready.
Build preparation into the programme
Do not assume new boards can follow immediately after old flooring is removed. Discuss assessment, required treatment and system-specific waiting stages with the contractor. Delivery and installation dates should follow confirmed readiness so materials and room access are planned sensibly.
